The popularity of online video has literally skyrocketed in the last twelve months. Any business, professional services firm, professional practitioner or medical or dental practice that is not using video promotion to bring in new clients, patients and customers is missing one of the most cost-effective and effective marketing tactics available. If you are not reaping the benefits of this tactic, you must rethink the issue and begin to market your practice or business with video promotion.
Video promotion for businesses and practices might be the most important thing that has been introduced into the marketing toolbox since the internet itself. Google conducted a study (“The Brand Value of Rich Media and Video Ads”) which demonstrated that video promotion is the most effective advertising method for building brand recognition and brand loyalty. It is also the most effective method of creating the intention to purchase. This tool alone can significantly increase the number of people who become your customers and clients.
YouTube doubled its views last year from 6.3 billion in 2008 to 13.2 billion in 2009. YouTube represents slightly more than one-third of total views of online video. When a marketing tactic grows in popularity at such a pace, businesses and practices cannot afford to ignore it. If video promotion is not part of your marketing strategy now, it should be.
People who analyze internet developments and those who analyze social changes have their own explanations for the amazing growth in online video. I do not presume to offer a serious analysis of the increased popularity of online video. I do, however have opinions about why businesses, medical professionals and professional services firms should be including video promotion in their marketing plans immediately.
— We are, first of all, a multi-media based society. We love TV and motion pictures. We have now raised a generation or two that finds it very difficult to learn when information is presented in a single medium. The marketing community has produced many studies documenting the effectiveness of TV and multi-media advertising. I believe the parallel with online video should be obvious.
— My second reason is that video promotion offers the means to let your personality show through to potential clients or customers. The first thing everybody learns about selling and marketing is that people want to do business with people they know, trust and like. What better way to make a good first impression than to let people get to know you before they even walk through the door?
— Third, if you have any kind of camera or cell phone that will record video or a video camera in/on your computer, you have all the equipment you need to make a video promotion. All you need to do is sit down and start talking.
— My fourth reason for using video promotion is that our society is increasingly enamored with reality TV. It is difficult to sit down to watch an evening of TV and not see at least one reality show. Why would you not want to be face to face with potential clients or customers?
— Last, but not least, video promotion is unbelievably versatile. You can do anything you want in a video recording. You can upload it to YouTube, link to it from your FaceBook page, put it on your website or anything else you want. Introduce yourself, talk about why you do what you do, what services you offer, what people need to know before they come in, what they might want to know later. You can even use a different video for each possible group of people or for each page on your website.
If you want to make a good impression, if you want to show people that they can trust you, or if you have something to sell that depends on who you are, what you do, or some other uniquely personality-defined aspect of your business, you need to be making video. Video promotion is the wave of the present and the future. Are you planning to ride the wave to significant business growth?
